STATEMENT

As an archaeologist I have learnt to look beyond the obvious image of things, paying attention to the underlying messages; these that the eyes often neglect. These are the stories of the object which also incorporate the memories of the people who made it, owned it or used it. That is the first element I need to communicate through my work.

My specialisation in archaeological illustration allows me to see images as a series of tangible and intangible layers. Different layers which altogether form an entity; diverse elements that give a unique piece. My ultimate purpose is to create a palimpsest of materials and meanings that transforms thoughts and feelings in three-dimensional forms and give a symbolic value to the final piece.

My work also emphasises the interaction of the person with the piece; a piece that can be transformed and worn in various ways, thus getting a different use and meaning that is unique for the person and their cosmos.
