HEART AUGMENTED

2014

Collection presented at JOYA Barcelona Art Fair 2014.

Looking at photographs of my beloved persons and of myself, an invisible universe of experiences, memories and emotions, hidden under the flat photographic depictions, unfolds on my working bench. People’s qualities and my awaken feelings are interwoven in the form of three-dimensional, multileveled syntheses made of different materials, symbolising their diverse personalities and their distinctive relationships with myself and the cosmos. The pieces of this collection are linked by a powerful symbol: the human heart. It represents both the people’s heart, wide enough to hold me in, and my heart that is open and strong to hold the feelings emerged from their images; in either case, a Heart Augmented.

Each piece of this collection, its moveable parts and the different materials employed, result in objects that can be viewed or used in different ways revealing their multiple facets and interpretations. Traditional metalsmithing techniques combined with sewing and paper folding produce the diversity of people’s qualities. Brass, alpaca, copper, silver, threads, leather, paper, textiles and acrylic paints are transforming the silent photographs into three-dimensional objects open to new readings and emotions once worn.
